What’s the difference between PU leather and real leather ?
PU (polyurethane) leather , also known as synthetic leather, is a synthetic alternative to genuine leather. It is available in various colors and styles. However, it may have a less natural appearance and feel. Unlike real leather, PU leather is not breathable and may emit a chemical or plastic odor. It tends to wear out and crack over time, resulting in a shorter lifespan than real leather. On the upside, PU leather is simpler to maintain and clean.
Doing a water test is also an easy way to determine if it is real or fake leather. Although it wouldn’t be advised to do a water test to a product you don’t own, genuine leather will absorb the water. PU leather will not absorb the water.
Genuine leather, also referred to as natural leather, is made from animal hides, typically including lambskin, sheepskin, and pigskin. It features a distinctive grain with inherent imperfections. Renowned for its resistance to wear, genuine leather demands a premium price and necessitates careful maintenance. When compared to PU leather, it boasts considerably enhanced durability. Its softer texture promotes superior breathability and moisture absorption. Additionally, genuine leather can withstand water exposure for up to 10 minutes and possesses thermostatic properties, making it adaptable to a wide range of temperatures, from the cold of Norway at -30°C to the heat of Africa at +50°C.
